CRH URGES FAMILIES TO OBSERVE THEIR EXPECTANT FEMALE RELATIVE

The Centre for Reproductive Health has urged families in the country to ensure that they put their expectant relatives under observation during the pre and post natal period.

Centre for Reproductive Health Executive Director Amos Mwale, says doing so will help families identify their relatives who could be suffering from post natal depression.

Mr. Mwale added that some of infanticide cases that the country has recorded could be as a result of post-natal depression.

Mr. Mwale has told komboni radio news that health workers in the country are overwhelmed with work to be able to give post-natal care to mothers and called families to help identify mothers that would need psychological help after child birth.

Recently, a woman of Lusaka’s Chinika compound allegedly killed her newly born baby and hid its body in a suitcase.

This annoyed the neighbors who demanded that the suspect be prosecuted for the inhumane action.

However, a health expert says infanticide can sometimes be as a result of post-natal depression which some women go through.
