ZINGALUME RESIDENTS CALL FOR QUICK RE-OPENING OF MWEMBESHI POLICE POST

BY RUTH MUMBA

Residents of Lusaka’s Zingalume compound have reiterated calls for the quick opening of the Mwembeshi Police Post that was gutted by residents last year.

The residents have bemoaned the increased criminal activities in the area which they have attributed to lack of police presence in that community.

Speaking in an interview with Komboni Radio News, the residents complained that they are living in fear due to the killings that have continued to be recorded in the area.

They have since called on the police to intensify night patrols in order to combat crime.

On Monday, Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said police in the area have engaged the local leadership to discuss the need for community participation in policing since Mwembeshi Police Post that was gutted by members of the public is not operational.

Mrs Katongo was reacting to security concerns that have been raised by residents following murder cases that have continued to be recorded in Zingalume and surrounding areas.
