The Zambia National Marketeers Credit Association (ZANAMACA) says burning down of city market and other markets in the country is retrogressive to national infrastructure development.

ZANAMCA President Mupila Kameya says it is not right for any responsible citizen to do such an act as it retards the country’s development agenda.

Mr Kameya called on all well-meaning Zambians to condemn the action.

In an interview with Komboni Radio News, Mr. Kameya said the act is a huge loss to the Zambian economy, marketeers, traders and their families as well as to the consumers and suppliers.

He disclosed that approximately 6,000 marketeers and traders in city market and its surrounding areas have been affected by the inferno.

The ZANAMACA President has since appealed to government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and other stakeholders to support the affected marketeers so that they can start their businesses again.

He demanded that markets throughout the country be provided with 24/7 security surveillance protection which include CCTV’s apparatus since markets are the largest industries creating employment for larger populations of the society.
