As Zambia today joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Press Freedom Day, Electoral expert McDonald Chipenzi has called for the revision of laws that impede on the enjoyment of freedom of the press in the country.

Mr Chipenzi has noted with regret that the media in the country is under threat due to what he termed as archaic laws that have been entertained before and after independence.

He says it is unfortunate that even after the introduction of multi-party democracy; the country still has laws that do not accommodate divergent views from various stakeholders, a situation he says has impacted negatively on media freedom.

In an interview with Komboni Radio News, Mr Chipenzi has also called on media proprietors in the country to stop misusing Journalists by paying them slave wages.

He says poor salaries have compromised the professionalism of some journalists as they tend to sympathize with political parties hoping that they will be given better jobs.
