ZABS URGES CONSUMERS TO GO FOR QUALITY AND SAFETY AT 2017 TRADE FAIR

BY SYLVESTER KAUMBA

The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has urged consumers attending this year’s Trade Fair in Ndola not to be over excited with the variety of products available at the show and the competitive or seemingly lower prices on offer.

ZABS Head of Marketing and Public Relations Hazel Zulu says consumers should instead make their buying decision based on product safety and quality and not quantity.

Mrs Zulu explained that this is so because consumers want to take advantage of the competitive prices at the trade show and end up making irrational and hasty buying decisions without taking into account the quality and safety of the product they are buying but rather concentrate on the cost and quantity.

She has since advised consumers to check significant information on the product packaging such as expiry date, manufacturing date, place of origin, batch number adding that products should be clearly labeled in English, which is the official language of communication and business in Zambia.

This year’s International Trade Fair which opened its gates to the public today will be officially opened tomorrow by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Trade fair is being held under the theme “Innovation for Industrialization”.
