ZABS Head of Marketing and Public Relations Hazel Zulu says the Bureau has noted with concern that the number of used motor vehicles that have entered the country without road worthiness certificates, particularly in the month of April has increased compared to the month of March 2017.
Mrs Zulu disclosed that in March, ZABS through its road worthiness agents inspected 1.028 motor vehicles of which 975 had road worthiness certificates while 53 vehicles had no road worthiness certificates and had to pay statutory penalties.
She however said that in the month of April this year, ZABS inspected 1,005 used motor vehicles of which 524 had road worthiness certificates while 481 had no road worthiness certificates.
The ZABS head of Marketing and Public Relations has since cautioned importers of used motor vehicles against bringing in vehicles that have not been certified road worthy as such vehicles are a risky to the safety of road users.
