YALI CALLS ON GOVT TO PROVIDE AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE PRIVATE MEDIA TO THRIVE

BY MONDE PHIRI

Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) president Andrew Ntewewe has called on the government to come up with incentives that will allow the private media in the country to thrive.

Mr. Ntewewe says incentives such as tax rebates should be introduced to allow the private media houses have more resources to extend their services to rural areas.

Mr. Ntewewe has observed that the media has remained concentrated in the urban area a situation that has denied the nation information pertaining to rural areas.

He added that there are many issues affecting the rural population which need to be highlighted in the media but that journalists are unable to reach far flung areas due to financial constraints.

Mr. Ntewewe was speaking to Komboni radio news in an interview ahead of the World Press Freedom day which is commemorated annually on the 3rd of May.
