Two female Public Service Vehicle drivers of Lusaka have challenged women in the country to take-up male dominated jobs.
Speaking in separate interviews with Komboni Radio News today, Ireen, a female bus driver who operates on the Chilenje route urged women folk not to shun male dominated jobs.
She charged that it is high time that women stood up and become self-reliant by taking up jobs that are considered to be for men alone instead of depending on their partners for survival.
Another female PSV driver Idah Mutamina says it is unfortunate that most women in the country are afraid to take up male dominated jobs as they cannot stand the pressure of working with men, and as a result have resorted to bad vices such as prostitution.
She also charged that over dependency on men has contributed to the escalating numbers of Gender Based Violence cases in the country.
Meanwhile, the two female PSV drivers have urged government through RATSA to come up with a deliberate policy that will encourage more women to acquire PSV licenses and get involved in the male dominated industry.
