TWO APPLICATIONS ON HIV AND MALARIA CONTROL VACCINE RESEARCH TRIAL APPROVED

The National Bio-safety Authority says it has approved two applications on HIV and malaria control vaccine research trials.

The trials have been undertaken by the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) in Lusaka and Macha Research Trust in Choma respectively.

National Bio-safety Authority Chairperson Dr Paul Zambezi says the two approvals are the first of the genetic modification related research application processed by the authority since its inception in 2013.

Dr Zambezi was speaking during the official opening of the awareness workshop on the Bio-safety clearing house.

He explained that the bio-safety clearing house aims to promote and facilitate technical and scientific cooperation in the country.

Dr Zambezi added the National Bio-safety Authority remains committed to regulate research, development, importation and placement of genetically modified products (GMOs) on the Zambian market.
