TSHWANE BUS STRIKE LEAVES MANY COMMUTERS STRANDED

Many bus commuters were left stranded on Thursday after some staff at the C de Wet Tshwane Bus Service (TBS) depot went on strike.

A group of personnel – comprising artisans, senior operators and general workers – blocked the main gate with two trucks.

Only three out of 105 buses were able to exit the depot.

Commuters in Centurion, Danville, Pretoria East and some in Lotus Gardens were severely affected.

In a statement, the City of Tshwane said TBS management was not informed of workers’ intention to strike.

The City said the strike is related to disgruntlement about overtime and the apparent outsourcing of work to external companies.
