STAKEHOLDER CALL FOR TRANSPARENCY IN THE MINING SECTOR

A Concerned resident has called on the government to ensure that officials that are engaged in facilitating for the implementation of the investment policies in the mining industry are transparent.

Mr Simon Kapwepwe has alleged that corruption among those facilitating for investment in the mining sector has contributed to the seemingly blackmailing of stakeholders by other mine owners.

Mr. Kapwepwe has told komboni radio that there is need for all investment policies and mining agreements that are entered into with investors to be done in a transparent manner.

And the Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has challenged government to ensure that the technical Committee that will be formulated to look at the running of the mines is inclusive of all stakeholders.

CSPR Executive Director Patrick Shindano has also hoped that the resolutions that will be passed will be implemented.

Mr. Shindano also called for transparency in the mining agreements that the government has signed with the investors.

President Edgar Lungu last week said he will soon constitute a technical committee that will re-look at the operations of the mines to ensure that Zambians also benefit from the mineral proceeds.
