SOCIETY URGED TO LOVE CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

BY SYLVESTER KAUMBA
Ministry of Tourism and Arts says parents and society need to show love and commitment to children with special needs because everyone is potentially disabled.
Tourism and Arts Acting Permanent Secretary Zechariah Luhanga said this when his Ministry made a donation to Chainama Special School.
The donation has since stunned pupils and staff at the Chainama Special School.
And Mr. Luhanga said his ministry is aware that the Ministry of General Education alone cannot manage to help all schools in Zambia and need other institutions and line ministries to support its efforts.
Mr. Luhanga said the Ministry of Tourism and Arts made the donation to appreciate the big role played by the teachers at the school.
And School Head Teacher Ruth Chala said the donation was a great encouragement especially that there are a lot of people out there that don’t know where the school is.
Mr. Chala emphasized that the children at the special school are sensitive and need a lot patience to handle as each one of their behaviours is equivalent to 10 behaviors of those in mainstream pupils.
The Ministry donated books, pens, pencils, cups and plates all valued at K4, 000.
This is contained in a statement made available to Komboni radio news by Ministry of Tourism and Arts Public Relations Officer Sakabilo Kalembwe.
