The Zambia Aged People’s Association in Mungwi District says most beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer Scheme are not genuine.
Mungwi District Association Chairman, Philip Katenda, says there is need to revisit the current list of recipients saying many rightful beneficiaries are missing on the list.
Mr. Katenda revealed that in most cases energetic youths have dominated the list at the expense of the majority of households in need of basic support headed by the elderly, widowed and the disabled.
He has since appealed to the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare to address the matter if the scheme is to improve the socio-economic welfare of the beneficiaries
Social cash transfer Scheme which is aimed at reducing extreme poverty and intergenerational transfer of poverty in the country targets the aged, female and child headed households, severely disabled and the chronically ill.
