SEVEN MAKESHIFT STALLS BURNT IN KAMWALA SOUTH

BY MONDE PHIRI
Lusaka District Commissioner Captain Davison Mulenga says another case of suspected arson was recorded on Monday night at a market near the yellow shop in Lusaka’s Kamwala south area.
Captain Mulenga disclosed to Komboni radio news that about 7 makeshift stalls were burnt to ashes.
The District Commissioner says his office rushed to the scene after receiving a call adding that a container believed to have been used to carry petrol was found on the scene.
Captain Mulenga has since urged members of the public to be alert and look out for suspicious individuals that may be planning to set ablaze public facilities such as markets among others.

And in a related development, Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda says youths have been mobilized in his constituency to form a 24 hour vigilance survey in an effort to avert any possible fire outbreaks in markets and other places.
Mr. Lubinda says the move follows an inferno that swept through over 100 makeshift stalls at Kamwala market on Sunday night.
The Kabwata parliamentarian adds that youths in his constituency are concerned and are ready to ensure that any possible fire outbreaks are prevented.
And Mr. Lubinda also said that he is optimistic that the police will establish whether the fire that gutted Kamwala market was caused by an electric fault or not.
On Sunday night, fire gutted over 100 makeshift stalls at Kamwala market destroying goods worth thousands of kwacha.
