The Secondary Schools Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) has assured its members countrywide of its commitment towards the collective bargaining process following the approval to hike electricity tariffs by 75 percent.
SESTUZ Deputy Secretary General for Administration Emmanuel Zulu says negotiations for a corresponding wage increase to counter the expected rise in prices of goods and services following the hike in electricity tariffs are under way and has appealed to government to seriously address the matter.
And Mr Zulu has insisted that a much more drawn out approach should have been adopted unlike the sudden 50 percent increase which came into effect this week.
The Energy Regulation Board -ERB-last week approved the electricity tariff adjustment for ZESCO retail customers by 75 percent.
The adjustment will be effected in two phases of 50 percent which came into effect on May 15th, 2017 and a further 25 percent will be effective on September 1st, 2017.
