SENIOR CITIZEN WELCOMES THE WITHDRAWAL OF CERTIFICATES FOR SELECTED COURSES AT APEX AND CAVENDISH

A senior citizen has welcomed the move by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) to withdraw the approval of certificates for selected training programs at APEX medical and the Cavendish Universities.
Mr White Chitalu says there is need for the institutions training medical students to meet the set standards of quality training.
Mr. Chitalu observes that the medical field is critical to human health hence the need for authorities to ensure that medical students are receiving quality training.
On Sunday the Health Professions Council of Zambia announced the immediate withdraw of the approval of certificates for Apex and Cavendish Universities in Bachelor of Science and pharmacy and Bachelor of Science and radiography.
Council registrar Dr. Aaron Mujajati said the two institutions failed to meet compliance levels in the withdrawn programs despite being given enough time to do so.
Dr. Mujajati disclosed that Apex Medical University had over enrolled students to 740 against five full time lecturers.
The institutions also lacked clinical instructors, recommended books, and that the laboratory did not meet the set standards.
