The Lusaka City council (LCC) has called on members of the public to cooperate with the council police as they execute their duties.
Speaking in an interview with Komboni radio news, LCC Acting Public Relations Manager George Sichimba says the council has received reports that council police officers are being physically and verbally abused by some members of the community.
Mr Sichimba has since reminded members of the public to understand that council Police are only doing their job to ensure that vendors do not go back in the streets.
The Acting LCC Public Relations Manager has disclosed that the council is working with the Zambia police to ensure that they are protected as they execute their duties.
Meanwhile, Mr Sichimba says the council has not received any report on some council police officers who are illegally charging vendors in order to trade in the streets.
Mr Sichimba has since urged members with such information to report to relevant authorities and reiterated that street vending is prohibited in Zambia.
