RESIDENTS OPPOSE REMOVAL OF CHICKEN STATUE AT CHAINAMA TRAFFIC CIRCLE

BY KALALUKA MUSHAUKWA

Some Lusaka residents have opposed the decision by the Lusaka City Council to request Hybrid Poultry Farming to remove the Chicken Statue from Chainama Traffic Circle commonly known s Roundabout.

Speaking in separate interviews with Komboni Radio News, some residents who have opposed the request by the council say there is need for the local authority to direct their energy on things that will benefit members of the public.

The residents have charged that they do not see anything wrong from the Chicken Statue at the Chainama Traffic Circle and urged the council to invest the money they want to replace the Chicken statue with projects that will benefit the community.

And reacting to concerns from the residents and other stakeholders, Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa explained that the current policy of the Lusaka City Council on all Traffic Circles is to have them simple, Green with a fountain or national hero statue in the middle.

Mr Sampa states that going by this policy, what is currently at the Chainama Traffic Circle falls short of this description and negates the efforts of the local authority to turn Lusaka into a Garden City.

The Mayor has also reminded residents that there are other companies such as banks that have sponsored maintenance of most traffic circles in Lusaka but none of them have put their advertisements inside these facilities, except Hybrid.
