RESIDENTS ADVISED AGAINST BUILDING IN FLOOD PRONE AREAS

Government has advised members of the public to desist from building houses in flood prone areas.

Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu says government is concerned that it has continued to spend huge sums of money to help flood victims who are living in flood prone areas.

In an interview with Komboni Radio News, the Kitwe DC says government is greatly concerned that even before the rains intensify, about 20 families in Kitwe’s Kamakondi area in Nkana Constituency are in need of help after their houses collapsed.

Mr Mpundu has however said that government through the DMMU has put in mitigation measures to avoid floods this rainy season.

He has also disclosed that his office is doing everything possible to avoid the outbreak of waterborne diseases and has since embarked on unblocking drains among other mitigating factors.
