PRISCCAR URGES GOVT TO SCRAP EXAM FEES FOR IN MATES

BY MONDE PHIRI
The Prisons Care and Counseling Association-PRISSCA says it has written to the Ministry of General Education to consider scrapping off user and examination fees for inmates that have gone back to school.
PRISSCA Executive Director Godfrey Malembeka has observed that prisoners are unable to generate income for their education bills hence the need for government to introduce a policy that will allow inmates to sit for exams at no cost.
The PRISSCA executive has since called for interventions that will allow more prisoners in the country to pursue their education at various levels while serving their sentences.
Mr. Malembeka notes that doing so will help prisoners get empowered and acquire skills that will sustain them after serving their prison sentences.
