PRESIDENT LUNGU URGED TO CUT DOWN ON INTERNATIONAL TRIPS

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to President Edgar Lungu to cut down on what the party termed as uneconomical international trips.
NDC Secretary General Mwenya Musenge has charged that the visit by the Head of State to Turkey is one such costly trip which should have been avoided.
Mr Musenge stressed that Zambia has an envoy designate to Turkey who could have effectively represented President Lungu at the inauguration of that country’s leader in order to cut down on costs.
He says an inauguration ceremony of a foreign Head of State should never have been given priority looking at the current economic hardship the country is going through.
The NDC Secretary General has observed that the huge sums of money being spent on allowances and other incidentals could be used on productive ventures such as buying drugs for patients and pay bursaries for university students.
And Mr Musenge says the austerity measures announced by Minister of Finance Margret Mwanakatwe if taken seriously can save resources in the country.
