The Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) has obtained a Notice of Hearing in the matter in which the party sued the Zambia Police Service through the Attorney General, for preventing them to protest against purchase of the 42 million USD fire tenders.
Party President Sean Tembo who disclosed the development says the matter will be heard by Justice Mapini Kawimbe in the Lusaka High Court on June 25th 2018.
Mr Tembo charged that his party has always contended that preventing them from the planned protests based on what he termed as flimsy grounds by the Police is a violation of their right and freedom of association and assembly as guaranteed by article 20 and 21 of the Republican Constitution.
He states that the lawsuit against the Zambia Police is testimony that that his party will not allow their rights and liberties to be trumped upon by those who think they are stronger than others.
