ONE PERSON HAS DIED WHILE 5 OTHERS SUSTAINED SERIOUS INJURIES IN A ROAD TRAFFIC

 

One person has died while 5 others sustained serious injuries after they were involved a road traffic accident which happened yesterday in Nyimba District in Eastern Province.

The accident is reported to have happened at Chamilala Area when the driver of a Toyota Allion failed to keep his lane and in the process collided with Scania Marcopolo bus registration number ABE 5435.

Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo has identified the deceased as Charles Banda who was a passenger on the Marcopolo Bus.

Mrs Katongo says the body of the deceased is lying in Nyimba District Hospital awaiting postmorterm.

She has also identified the driver of Toyota Allion as Manala Balaya Jeke a Malawian national who is currently admitted to Nyimba Hospital together with his 3 other passengers.

Meanwhile, a 12 year old girl of Lusaka’s Kanyama Compound is nursing multiple burns after she was set on fire by her biological mother using kerosene in unclear circumstances.

Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo who confirmed the development said the incident happened yesterday around 17 hours in old kanyama.

Mrs. Katongo said the suspect identified as Prudence Phiri aged 29 was apprehended by members of the public who surrendered her to the Police.

The victim was also rushed to kanyama clinic for medical attention while the mother is remanded in police custody.
