Northern Province Permanent Secretary Dr Jobbicks Kalumba has commended the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) for decentralizing its services and making them accessible to SMEs and consumers in the province.

Dr Kalumba said this when he hosted a delegation from ZABS at his office, led by Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Manuel Mutale.

Dr Kalumba commended ZABS for making the government’s decentralization policy a reality in Northern Province by making available the much needed standardization and quality assurance services in the province.

The provincial Permanent Secretary has since urged ZABS to conduct thorough enforcement activities in the province to ensure that consumers are protected from substandard products.

Dr Kalumba also advised ZABS to take a leading role in monitoring quality of some of the products procured by government such as Chalk and books.

And ZABS Chief Executive Officer Manuel Mutale expressed happiness at the willingness by the business community in Northern Province to comply to set standards.

This is contained in a Press statement issued to Komboni Radio News by ZABS Head of Marketing and Public Relations Hazel Zulu.
