NORTH WESTERN MINISTER ASSURES SOLWEZI FLOOD VICTIMS OF GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

North-Western province Minister Richard Kapita has assured officers at Solwezi Aquaculture Research Station and fish farmers in the region that he will engage his counterpart in the Ministry of Fisheries over the recent floods that swept away over 40,000 fish at the facility.
Mr Kapita says there is urgent need to quickly restock the fish ponds in order to avoid slowing governments program to grow the fish industry in the province.
The provincial minister expressed sadness after he visited the Solwezi Aquaculture Research Station, affected families and the destroyed roads yesterday to understand the extent of damage following the floods that submerged and destroyed houses as well as properties 3 days ago.
And the Minister has also assured flood victims in parts of Solwezi of government’s support to mitigate their plight.
Mr Kapita added that he will soon be engaging the local authority over the poor allocation of plots to the people in dambo areas.
The provincial Minister was accompanied by Solwezi District Commissioner Rosemary Kamalonga and officers from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU and the Road Development Agency-RDA.
