Residents of Lusaka’s Mtendere compound  effected a citizen’s arrest on a 25 year old woman of the same area for allegedly dumping her newly born twins in a pit latrine.

The suspect who has only been identified as Kaluba was apprehended in the early hours of today by alert neighbours who discovered the babies dumped in the pit latrine.

And in an interview with a Komboni Radio News crew that rushed to the scene, the angry neighbours disclosed that this is not the first time the suspect is reported of dumping a newly born baby.

The residents have since urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that the culprit who has since been handed over to the police is punished in order to deter other would be offenders.

The bodies of the two dumped babies have since been retrieved by the fire brigade.

Meanwhile, Mtendere ward 30 Councillor Watson Mtonga who also rushed to the scene has expressed disappointment over the development.

Mr Mtonga says it is unfortunate that two precious lives of innocent children have been lost in such a barbaric manner.

The civic leader charged that he will ensure that the culprit is prosecuted and sent to jail to serve as a lesson for young women who are in the habit of dumping babies.
