MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WELCOME THE BAN ON THE USE OF PRIVATE MOBILE PHONE NUMBERS

Members of the public have welcomed the ban on the use of private mobile phone numbers by the Zambia Information and Communications Technology (ZICTA).
Speaking in an interview with Komboni Radio News today, James Zulu says the decision taken by ZICTA is welcome as some people were abusing these numbers to insult and harass others knowing that they cannot be called back.
Zulu also observed that private numbers had also contributed to marital problems as some people with ill intentions were calling other people spouses at awkward hours.
Another resident who declined to be named commended ZICTA for banning the use of private numbers stating that this will curtail people involved in dubious activities.
ZICTA announced that it had set Tuesday January 31st as the deadline to Phase out individual hidden cell phone numbers.
ZICTA Support Service Director Mofya Chisala said the authority is working in collaboration with mobile service providers to ensure that private numbers are banned.
Mr Chisala says the decision comes after the authority received several complaints from members of the public of being victimized by private line owners.
