BY MONDE PHIRI
Government medicines worth thousands of Kwacha were on Saturday seized from illegal drug outlets during a joint operation conducted by inspectors from the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA), Zambia Police and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).
ZAMRA Public Relations officer Ludovic Mwape also disclosed that 7 people have been arrested for selling medicines without certificates of registration and failing to keep records contrary to the medicines and Allied Substance Act No.3 0f 2013 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. Mwape says the operation was conducted in Lilanda, George and Chazanga compounds.
He says those arrested have been detained and will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Mr Mwape has urged members of the public to desist from buying medicines from illegal drug stores saying most of the medicines are not stored according to the required specifications a situation that puts the lives of consumers at risk.
