Lusaka residents have bemoaned the increase in mealie meal prices, stating that the current state of the economy is challenging for majority Zambians.

Some mealie meal retailers in Lusaka have increased the price of the commodity by K5.

And speaking in an interview with Komboni Radio News, Mr Maxwell Tembo described the recent increase in mealie meal prices as unfortunate saying it will be difficult for most families who are already struggling to have three meals per day.

He has however attributed the increase in the price of the commodity to the recent hike in fuel pump prices.

A check by a Komboni Radio news crew in some retail outlets discovered that a 25 Kilogramme bag of breakfast was selling between K65 and K70 from K60 and K65.

And efforts to get a comment from the Millers Association of Zambia failed by broadcast time.
