MATERO RESIDENTS BEMOAN CONTAMINATED WATER BEING SUPPLIED TO THE AREA

Residents in Lusaka’s Matero constituency have bemoaned the allegedly contaminated water being supplied to some parts of that constituency.

In an interview with a Komboni Radio News Crew that visited the constituency today, residents complained that apart from the erratic water supply being faced in some areas, the water being supplied is also contaminated.

Ms Mary Kabwe disclosed that the water being supplied is not safe for human consumption.

Another resident only identified as Mweembe fears that there might be further outbreaks of Cholera if the situation is not immediately addressed by the relevant authorities.

The residents have since called on the Lusaka water and Sewerage Company to rectify the situation and ensure that they provide clean water to residents in Matero Constituency.

Meanwhile, Minster of Water and Sanitation Lloyd Kazhila has attributed the water crisis being faced in some parts of the city to the works being carried out by the water utility firm in Kafue.

Mr Kazhila who is also Matero Member of Parliament has since assured residents in the affected areas of normal water supply once the upgrade works are completed.

And Mr Kazhila says his ministry has put in measures to help curb the further outbreak of Cholera in Kanyama and Chipata compounds.

In an interview With Komboni Radio News, Mr Kazhila who is Water and Sanitation Minister says government is transporting clean and safe drinking water to the affected communities.

He stated that government is doing everything possible to discourage people from drinking contaminated water from shallow wells and other water sources.
