LUSAKA RESIDENTS WELCOME RE-INTRODUCTION OF NATIONAL AIRLINE

Some Lusaka residents have welcomed the re-introduction of a national airline by government.

In an interview with Komboni Radio News, Japhet Malambo says the re-introduction of a national airline will contribute to the economic growth of the country.

Mr Malambo charged that the closure of Zambian Airways had negatively affected the country’s tourism and trade as it had to rely on foreign airlines, which are expensive and characterized by connectivity challenges.

He has since urged government to employ competent people who will effectively run the national airline to ensure that it does not go down like the former Zambia Airways.

Last year, cabinet approved the re-establishment of a national airline, which will be run in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines as a strategic partner.

Transport and Communications Minister Brian Mushimba has disclosed that the long awaited national airline will be re-launched on October 24th this year following approval by the Ministry of Justice and Cabinet at an initial estimated cost of US $30 million.
