LUSAKA DC WARNS AGAINST ILLEGAL ALLOCATION OF LAND

A concerned resident of Munali constituency has expressed concern with the manner the land behind Munali Secondary School is being allocated.

In an interview with Komboni Radio News, Mr Chilufya Mubanga who is a retiree has complained that the land in question is being allocated to outsiders at the expense of the locals.

Pastor Mubanga has charged that residents around Munali should have been given first priority to benefit from the said land unlike the current situation where people who are total strangers are allocated land at the expense of the locals.

Pastor Mubanga alleged that the plots were not advertised adding that it is shocking to see strangers putting up structures on the said land.

He has since appealed to the local leadership to consider giving land to the locals who have the capacity to develop them.

And efforts to get a comment from the local leadership failed by broadcast time.

And in a related development, Lusaka District Commissioner Captain Davison Mulenga has warned of stern action against people who have continued to encroach on land meant for public infrastructure.

And Captain  Mulenga has urged the Lusaka City Council to utilize site  offices  which  are  found  in  most  communities to deal with people  encroaching and acquiring Land without approval from  the council.

The DC said this after touring SOS area where people have encroached on land meant for the construction of a modern market and other social amenities which include a Police station and a clinic.

Captain Mulenga was accompanied by his deputy and the area Councilor for Mwembeshi ward Kelvin Kaunda.

Meanwhile, Mwembeshi ward Councilor Kelvin Kaunda who also expressed concern over the illegal allocation of land in his ward has called for punitive measures against the perpetrators to send a warning to would be offenders.
