LEVY MWANAWASA HOSPITAL UPGRADED TO UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL

President Edgar Lungu has upgraded Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital to a University Teaching Hospital Status.

And President Lungu says the expansion of Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital will bring on board specialized medical services to ensure quality health care in the country.

In a speech read for him by Vice President Inonge Wina, the Head of state said that the expansion of the Hospital is line with government’s desire to bring health services closer to the people.

President Lungu said this during the ground breaking ceremony of the expansion of phase two of Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital which is expected to be completed within three years.

And the Chinese government has pledged to expand the bed capacity of Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital from 239 to 826 within three years.

Visiting Chinese state Councillor Wang Yong said the Hospital will become the largest Hospital in Africa once the expansion is completed.

And speaking in an interview shortly after the ground breaking ceremony, Lusaka residents commended government for upgrading Levy General Hospital to a University Teaching Hospital status saying this will improve the provision of health care services in the country.
