LCC SETS ASIDE K260,000 FOR CLEARING OF VEGETATION IN CEMETERIES

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has set aside Two Hundred and Sixty Thousand Kwacha (K260, 000.00) for clearing of the overgrown vegetation in all its four cemeteries.

LCC Public Relations Manager George Sichimba who confirmed the development explains that the amount will carter for labour as well as the cost of procuring tools to be used in the exercise.

Mr Sichimba states that the exercise will commence this week and will go on for the next three months.

He says the council has opted to engage inmates from Zambia Correctional Services to quicken the exercise of clearing the overgrown vegetation.

Mr Sichimba charged that the overgrown vegetation in the cemeteries is posing security concerns hence the need to clear it as quickly as possible by engaging a well organised institution like Zambia Correctional Services.

The LCC Public Relations Manager has also noted with regret that the situation has led to some unscrupulous people to be conducting illegal activities in the cemeteries such as illegal dumping of waste and illegal sell of beer and food stuffs among other illegalities.
