The Law Association of Zambia says President Edgar Lungu should have allowed the thorough investigation of all the suspected arson cases that have been recorded before invoking 31 of the republican constitution.

LAZ President Linda Kasonde says government should have carried out conclusive investigations in other cases of suspected arson and incidences that justifies a threatened State of Emergency.

Ms Kasonde however says President Lungu followed the law when he invoked article 31 of the constitution.

The LAZ president was speaking at a Press briefing in Lusaka Today.

And Ms Kasonde has urged the public to remain calm saying the invocation of Article 31 does not infringe on the bill of rights which guarantee Freedoms of Assembly and Association among others.

She added that LAZ will engage the government to ensure that the security measures that it comes up with during the 3 months of the threatened State of Emergency does not curtail the fundamental freedoms of the citizens.
