LAND DISPUTES ERUPTS OVER A PIECE OF LAND ALONG THE LILAYI-NEW KASAMA ROAD

BY SYLVESTER KAUMBA

A land dispute has erupted between a named individual and Lilayi Talc Mine Association over a piece of land along the Lilayi-New Kasama road.

Lilayi Talc Mine Association Vice Chairperson William Banda disclosed to Komboni Radio news in a walk in interview that a named individual is now claiming ownership of the land where they have been carrying out mining activities since 2010.

Mr Banda who was franked by the association’s Vice Treasurer also alleged that the named individual is trying to block them from getting mining licence.

He complained that from the time they applied for a mining licence in 2016, they have never received any positive response from the ministry of mines.

Mr Banda has since appealed to government to intervene in the matter and ensure that the over 60 people who have been carrying out mining activities at the said land are compensated before being displaced.

And Lilayi Talc Mine Association Treasurer Brian Kunda complained that they are now failing to carry out their normal day to day mining activities owing what he termed as continued harassment from the individual claiming ownership of the land.

Mr Kunda complained that some of their mining equipments have since been confiscated by the police who were sent by the said individual.

He has since appealed to government to intervene in the matter stating that a lot of job opportunities cab be created through the mining of Talc as the soft stone has proved to be of great benefits.
