JOYCE NONDE URGED TO DESIST FROM ATTACKING THE LABOUR MOVEMENT

BY MONDE PHIRI
The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has advised Labour Minister Joyce Simukoko to desist from issuing statements that have the potential to destabilize industrial harmony in the country.
ZCTU Secretary General Cephas Mukuka says the recent remarks by the labour minister, that the labour movement is weak are regrettable.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mukuka charged that Mrs Simukoko’s continued attacks on the labour movement may cause the workers in the country to rise against their employers a situation that may make the country ungovernable.
The ZCTU Secretary General has since advised Mrs Simukoko to focus her energies on improving the welfare of employees rather than attacking the labour movement.
