Three families comprising of 20 people have been left homeless and their property worth thousands of kwacha destroyed after their iron roofed, pole and papyrus houses were gutted by fire in Mbukusita Compound of Mongu District in Western Province.

The fire that swept through the three houses yesterday around 14 00 hours is suspected to have being caused by a flame from a brazier that was left in the open near one of the houses.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Chipango Likonge one of the affected victims said she lost nearly all her household property including K15, 000 cash in the inferno.

And another affected victim Namunji Mutumba also disclosed that the fire destroyed her house forcing her family to seek asylum in the neighborhood.

Ms. Likonge and others that have been affected by the fire are appealing to government to quickly come to their aid as they have remained with nothing to live on adding that the weather is harsh during this season.
