HH OPPOSES PRINTING OF 2021 BALLOT PAPERS IN ZAMBIA

Opposition UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has opposed plans by government to print ballot papers for the 2021 general elections in Zambia.

Mr Hichilema has charged that there are a number of economic challenges that the PF government has failed to address adding that a lot need to be done before the country can embark on printing election material locally.

And Mr Hichilema has also called for an establishment of an independent electoral body as is the case in other countries.

The UPND leader explained that having an independent Electoral Commission will allow elections to be held in a free and fair manner.

Mr Hichilema said this during a media briefing at the Party Secretariat where the party received new members.

Vice President, Inonge Wina has reaffirmed government’s plans of printing the 2021 ballot papers locally.

Mrs. Wina said government stands ready to print the 2021 ballot papers locally as long as technical security matters are addressed.

Mrs. Wina was responding to a question from Nangoma Member of Parliament Boyd Hamusonde who wanted to know whether government has any plans to print ballot papers for the 2021 general elections locally.
