GOVT URGED TO COMPEL MINING COMPANIES TO PAY TAX BEFORE EXPORTING MINERALS

Peoples Party President Mike Mulongoti has recommended that the mining companies be compelled to pay their taxes before minerals leave the country.
Mr. Mulongoti has observed that allowing the mining companies to pay their taxes after exporting the copper seemingly contributes to tax evasion.
The opposition leader has wondered why the government seems to be so lenient with the foreign investors alleging that it is evident that some government officials could be benefiting from the investment deals.
In an interview with Komboni radio news, Mr Mulongoti said there is need for the government to come up with investment policies that will benefit all the Zambian citizens.
And Mr. Mulongoti has also called for the prudent utilization of national resources that the country is endowed with.
Mr. Mulongoti has observed that failure by government to protect the national resources from exploitative foreigners will have a negative effect on future generations.
