GOVT URGED TO CAST THE NET WIDE DURING THE CERTIFICATION OF PEOPLE TO BENEFIT FROM THE SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER

A civic leader has appealed to the Government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare to cast the net wide during the ongoing certification of people living with disability, chronically ill and those on palliative care to benefit from the first ever social cash transfer program in Kasama district.

Speaking in an interview today, Julia Chikamoneka Ward Councilor Peter Yunda says there is need for the ministry to go in villages to certify beneficiaries as opposed to asking them to travel long distances if the program is to benefit the intended recipients.

Mr. Yunda adds that there is need to decentralize the identification of beneficiaries at village level if the program is to bear the desired results.

And speaking in a separate interview, Kasama Village Committee Chairperson, Bernard Chanda, echoed similar sentiments saying a number of potential beneficiaries for Social Cash Transfer in his area have failed to travel to Police Camp Clinic situated in Newtown due to lack of transport.
