GOVT REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO FOSTERING A POSITIVE CYCLE OF AN EDUCATED NATION

BY SYLVESTER KAUMBA
Government has reaffirmed its commitment in fostering a positive cycle of an educated nation in order to meet regional and global target that the country has committed to.
Ministry of education Permanent Secretary Henry Tukombe observed that education plays a critical role to reaching out to other developmental objective and breaking the cycle of poverty.
And Mr Tukombe also commended the role that the private sector plays in supplementing government’s efforts in ensuring that girls have a right to free and quality education regardless of the financial status of their families.
The Permanent secretary said this in a Speech read on his behalf by Director in the ministry of General education Esther Chizambe during the launch of the five year partnership between Prudential and Camfed, the campaign for Female Education in Zambia today.
And speaking at the same event, CAMFED board member Professor Dickson Mwansa disclosed that the partnership will support 200 girls each year from vulnerable families to go to secondary school.
Professor Mwansa says a total of 1000 girls will receive the holistic support including financial, counseling and mentorship.
