BY KALALUKA MUSHAUKWA

Government has extended the student’s Loan Scheme to Seven more public Universities in the country.

Speaking at a media briefing, Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo revealed that the loan scheme will now only cover tuition and accommodation fees which will be paid directly to the institutions, while students will only be paid book and project allowances.

Professor Luo said the new loan beneficiaries will be granted a single disbursement fund per semester as the Higher Education’s Loans and Scholarship Board may determine.

The minister however explained that this will only affect new loan beneficiaries of 2019 and does not include existing loan beneficiaries.
