Residents of Kizito area in George Compound are in a power blackout after a tree that was being cut by unknown people at Kizito Primary Schools fell on the Zesco power lines.
One of the concerned residents Elliot Phiri who confirmed the development to Komboni radio news said the tree that fell has also caused extensive damage to a nearby saloon.
Another resident Stanley Mwiya bemoaned delays by the power utility firm ZESCO, to respond to such emergencies whenever they are called.
Mwiya feared that failure by the power utility to respond promptly may put the lives of the residents at risk of being electrocuted.
But when contacted for a comment, ZESCO spokesperson Henry Kapata advised the residents to desist from tempering with trees that are near the ZESCO power lines.
Mr. Kapata has however ruled out any possible cases of electrocution saying the system is always deactivated whenever there is a disturbance.
The ZESCO spokesperson has also refuted claims that ZESCO has not been responding to calls from members of the public stating that the power utility company treats every call received with urgency.
