Forum for National Development and Democracy (FDD) says the set 60 kwacha per 50 kilogram bag of Maize as the price for the 2017 maize marketing season is a mockery to the farmers.

In an interview with Komboni radio news, FDD deputy national secretary Antonio Mwanza alleged that the buying price set by the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) does not reflect the production costs incurred by the farmers.

Mr. Mwanza adds that the set floor of price will worsen the poverty level especially in the rural areas were people depend on Maize sales for income generation.

He has further charged that the buying price of maize by FRA does not reflect government’s claim of its efforts to diversify the economy through promotion of agriculture.
