FIRE SWEEPS THROUGH MAKESHIFT STORES OUTSIDE CHIWEMPALA MARKET IN CHINGOLA

Fire has swept through some makeshift stores outside Chiwempala market in Chingola destroying property worth thousands of Kwacha.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga says contrary to some social media reports, it is not the actual Chiwempala market that has been gutted by fire.
Ms Katanga who confirmed the development in a telephone interview says the fire broke out around 03 hours this morning and is suspected to have been caused by a brazier that was left unattended to from one of the makeshift restaurants outside the market.
She says the inferno was only quenched around 08 hours by a combined team of fire fighters from the Chingola Municipal Council and Konkola Copper Mines.
The Copperbelt Police Chief however says investigations into the matter have been instituted.
The latest fire accident comes barely a few weeks after fire swept through Buteko and COMESA market in Mufulira and Lusaka respectively destroying property worth millions of Kwacha.
