A concerned Lusaka resident has called on stakeholders in the country not to allow the Political Party’s bill to be enacted into law.

A resident only identified as Charles says it will be unfair for the government to start funding political parties amid the financial constraints that the country is currently faced with.

Charles has instead suggested that policy makers should instead focus on ensuring that resources mobilized are channeled to the needy areas such as the health and education sectors.

But another resident only identified as Douglas supported the bill saying is will ensure that opposition political parties with representation in parliament have access to funds to enable them operate effectively.

Meanwhile, Fourth Revolution Party leader Eric Chanda has objected the bill saying politicians should not be allowed to squander public resources at the expense of ordinary citizens.

Mr. Chanda told Komboni radio news that the country has no money to fund politicians adding that the government is already struggling to finance its various developmental programs.

Government intends to take to parliament a political funding bill which once enacted will see political parties with parliamentary seats being funded by government.
