ERB’S APPROVAL OF THE 75 PERECENT ELECTRITY TARIFF HIKE DISSAPOINTS LUSAKA RESIDENTS

BY SYLVESTER KAUMBA

Some Lusaka residents have expressed disappointment with the decision by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to approve the electricity tariff adjustment for ZESCO retail customers by 75 percent.

Speaking in separate interviews with Komboni Radio News today, the residents charged that the hike in electricity tariffs will increase the cost of production which will also result in the hike in the prices of goods and services.

The residents say it is saddening that the ERB has approved the electricity tariff increase by ZESCO despite many stakeholders being against the 75 percent tariff adjustment.

They have complained that the move will further worsen the economic hardships ordinary Zambians are facing.

The Energy Regulation Board –yesterday approved the electricity tariff adjustment for ZESCO retail customers by 75 percent.

ERB acting Chairman, Francis Yamba, said the adjustment will be effected in two phases of 50 percent effective May 15th, 2017 and 25 percent starting September 1st, 2017.
