DMMU URGED TO SPEED UP ASSITANCE TO KALIKILIKI FLOOD VICTMS

BY OSCAR NKHUWA
Residents of Lusaka’s Mtendere and Kalikiliki compounds have reiterated calls on the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU to quickly move in and assist families whose houses were submerged following heavy rains.
The residents have complained to Komboni Radio News that no help has been rendered to the affected families to date after their houses submerged in water last week.
And a resident of Kalikiliki compound only identified as Bajo has attributed the recent floods that were experienced in the area to the illegal allocation of plots in undesignated areas.
Last week, property worth thousands of Kwacha was destroyed after some houses in Mtendere and Kalikiliki compound were submerged in water following the heavy rains.
And Mtendere ward 30 councilor Watson Mtonga, says he is working with Munali Member of Parliament to find an alternative place where the 65 affected families can be relocated.
