DELAYS TO PAY TRANSPORTERS DISCOURAGE FEMALE TRANSPORTERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS YEARS MARKETING SEASON

BY CORRESPONDENT
Female transporters in Northern Province say they feel discouraged to participate in the hauling of maize in this year’s marketing season due to governments delay to pay them their dues.
They lamented in an interview that most women have faced numerous challenges in providing basic needs for their families owing to the lack of payment.
They added that government should hear to the plight of women.
They have since appealed to government to accelerate the process of releasing funds for transporters in Northern Province.

On Tuesday, irate transporters contracted to haulage the food reserve agency-FRA maize in Northern Province stormed the agencies’ regional office demanding to be paid their monies.
They lamented in an interview that it is unfortunate that government has failed to honor its promise.
The transporters stressed that they have run out patience saying over four years has since passed but all in vain.
